Its just a wedding.

I heard that Shoaib wedding Sania Mirza was discussed in the parliament two days ago. Khawaja Asif said, “Shoaib cha gaya, Sialkot ko mashur kar dya” (Shoaib has taken the day, made Sailkot popular). Qamar-uz-Zaman Kaira said,”Ishq kya ha to ye chalta hi rahay ga” (and the love will go on). Well all I can say for certain is that Sania Mirza has become more popular than ever before. Apparently tennis could not give her the fame and prestige that being married to Shoaib Malik could. After all, it is not everyday a tennis star from Hyderabad falls in love with a married cricketer who had previously fallen for a girl he had never met. But whatever the case, Sania Mirza has been wed to a Pakistani and apparently the Hindu Extremists find it offensive. They can be seen marching along the streets holding banners in their hands, chanting slogans that even the Indian Government has been forced to label as, “rants of a loon.” Now the part I don’t get is she is a grown up, is a muslim and well, I think she is a she, so there should be no social or moral issue in her marrying Malik. I mean, wouldn’t it be rather ‘unsecular’ to claim her as a national treasure when she wants to marry a guy from the country that is to be hated. I mean, my take is, if you hate Pakistan, kindly do that in your own backyard! But the extremists are not the only ones who are against the marriage. A large number of Pakistani girls are of the opinion that he should have found a girl in Pakistan. My take is, hold your horses ladies, you will find your prince charming one day. Just let a guy roll the way he wants to for once.

But the truly sad thing about this marriage is that it shows no matter how many promises of friendship our neighbor makes, the Indian Intelligence and the local police join hands to make sure they are never kept. But I guess that’s just how things go. As far as the idea of where Shoaib and Sania will settle, I being a patriotic Pakistani do not give a rat’s ass. The reason is I live in a country where much bigger problems are present such as poverty, energy crisis, rising unemployment, sugar crisis, water crisis and, the up and coming, Hazara crisis. All I know for sure is that the media is playing its role of making the people think on matters that have absolutely no significance in anyone’s lives. Look at Dr. israr Ahmed’s death. How much coverage did that get, just because it was a day before the couple got married? I mean come on, who wants to think about the bad realities of life, when love is in the air! So as far as the newlyweds go, my best wishes just stop being in front of the camera for once and let us contemplate in which catastrophe we are now in peace. On a serious note, just get off the screen so that more important issues can be on them.
